| Pretreatment | any special attention you give a garment before alundering |
| Pressing | the process of lifting and lowering the iron onto the areas of the fabric |
| Ironing | moving the iron back and forth over the fabric |
| Dry Clean | to clean using chemicals rather than with water and detergent |
| Care Labels | labels in garments that tell you how to properly care for the garments |
| Stains | a spot or discoloration on a garment |
| Sorting | grouping clothing into piles according to how you will launder them |
| Tumble Drying | drying clothes in an automatic dryer |
| Line Drying | hanging up washed clothes to dry |
| Flat Drying | drying a washed garment by first rolling the garment in a towel and pressing the water out, then laying the garment out flat on a clean, dry surface |
| Snag | a loop or yarn pulled out of a fabric |
| Alteration | a change made in a garment so that will fit properly |
| Detergents | job is to remove dirt from fabrics |
| Bleach | product used with detergents to remove stains, whiten, and brighten 100% cotton fabrics |
| Fabric Softeners | reduce static, makes fabric softer, and reduce wrinkling |
| Bleeding Colors | a color that releases some of its dye onto other fabrics |
| Colorfast | having colors that will not bleed or fade |
| Soleplate | the bottom your iron |
| Mend | repair |
| Mildew | a fungus that grows on damp fabrics, causing stains |
| Enzyme Presoak | pretreatment product used to break down protein stains |
| High Efficiency Detergent | low sudsing and quick dispersing for use in low water volume |
| Light Duty Detergent | made to withstand comparatively moderate loads |
| Non-Chlorine Bleach | bleach that uses hydrogen peroxide instead of sodium hypchlorite |
| Chlorine Bleach | bleach that uses sodium hypochlorite |
| Starch | powder or spray made from starch and used before ironing to stiffen fabric or clothing |
| Disinfectant | a chemical liquid that destroys bacteria. |
| Prewash Stain Remover | a preliminary wash to remove stains |
| Ultra Detergent | a cleaning substance that has greater power than usual detergent |
| Combination Detergent | many different detergents mixed together |
| Water Softener | a device or substance that softens hard water by removing certain minerals. |
