| AUTOTROPHS | Producers make their own food; Capture the sun's energy, turning it into carbohydrates through photosynthesis |
| HETROTROPHS | Consumers unable to make their own food; Need to consume others or their waste for energy |
| HERBIVORES | Eat plants |
| DECOMPOSERS | Break down of organisms and wastes into organic molecules. The organic molecules become part of the soil used by plants. (i.e., worms, bacteria & fungi) |
| CARNIVORES | Eat other animals |
| SCAVENGERS | An organism feeds habitually on refuse. (i.e., Crows, Vultures) |
| OMNIVORES | Eats both plants and animals |
| FOOD CHAIN | Shows which animals eat other animals or plants. Traces flow of energy and nutrients through single ecosystem from one organism to another. |
| FOOD WEB | Complex pathway of interconnected food chains in an ecosystem |
