Plant vocabulary- Part I
| Term | Definition |

| Chlorophyll | A green pigment that captures light energy for photosynthesis |
| Nonvascular plant | Plants that lack specialized conducting tissues and true roots, stems and leaves |
| Vascular plant | Plants that have specialized tissues that conduct material from one part of the plant to another |
| Gymnosperm | A woody, vascular seed plant whose seeds are not enclosed by an ovary, fruit or flower |
| Angiosperm | A flowering plant that produces seeds within a fruit or flower |
| Rhizoid | A rootlike structure in nonvascular plants that holds the plants in place and helps plants get water and nutrients |
| Rhizome | A horizontal, underground stem that produces new leaves, shoots, and roots |
| Pollination | Transfer of pollen from the male part to the female part of the flower |
| Pollen | The tiny granules that contain the male sex cell of seed plants |
| Sepal | Leaflike structure enclosing a flower when it is still a bud |
| Petal | Colorful leaf like structures that surround the male and female reproductive organs in a flower |
| Stamen | Male reproductive organ of a flower |
| Pistil | Female reproductive structure of a flower |
