Diploid This term is used to describe a cell with a nucleus that contains 2 sets of chromosomes.
Haploid This term is used to describe a cell with a nucleus that contains 1 set of chromosomes.
Fertilisation This term is used to describe the process which occurs when the nucleus of a male gamete joins to the nucleus of a female gamete.
Gamete The word which is used to describe any type of haploid sex cell.
Testes The site of gamete production in male mammals.
Ovary The site of gamete production in female mammals.
Ovum The name of the gamete produced by female mammals.
Sperm The name of the gamete produced by male mammals.
Anther The site of production of the male gametes in plants.
Ovary The site of production of the female gametes in plants.
Ovule The name of the female gamete produced by plants.
Pollen The name of the male gamete produced by plants.
Zygote The term used to describe the new diploid cell which is made when the nucleus of a male gamete joins to the nucleus of a female gamete.
