What Are Plants?

TermDefinition
Roots Anchor roots to soil, store food, absorb water and nutrients.
Xylem Carries water and nutrients upward from roots to leaves.
Phloem Carries photosenthetic products( glucose ) downward from leaves to roots.
Leaves Absorb light, Carry out photosynthesis, Broad flat leaves maximize light absorption.
Stems Produce leaves, branches, and flowers// Transports water and nutrients between roots and leaves.
Vascular Tissue Tubes that carry out water, minerals, and food within the plant.
Pollination Transfer of pollen from mate to female productive structure.
Spore A unit of asexual reproduction that may be adapted for dipersal and for survival.
Seed Plant embryo and food supply enclosed in a productive covering.
Five major groups of plants? Embryo Formation, Seeds, Flowers, Specialized water-conducting tissue.
