Observation a direct method of gathering information in an orderly way
inference making logical conclusions
scientific method gather information and answer questions
hypothesis a testable explanation of a situation
serendipity the occurrence of accidental but fortunate results
experiment investigating a phenomenon in a controlled setting to test a hypothesis
control group group used for comparison
experimental group the group exposed to the factor being tested
independent variable the only factor that can change in an experiment
dependent variable the factor that is measured, and relies on the independent variable
constant a factor that remains fixed during an experiment
data information gained from observations
safety symbol a logo designed to alert you about a specific danger
