| inference | making logical conclusions |
| scientific method | gather information and answer questions |
| hypothesis | a testable explanation of a situation |
| serendipity | the occurrence of accidental but fortunate results |
| experiment | investigating a phenomenon in a controlled setting to test a hypothesis |
| control group | group used for comparison |
| experimental group | the group exposed to the factor being tested |
| independent variable | the only factor that can change in an experiment |
| dependent variable | the factor that is measured, and relies on the independent variable |
| constant | a factor that remains fixed during an experiment |
| data | information gained from observations |
| safety symbol | a logo designed to alert you about a specific danger |
