Atom Basic unit of matter.
Element Substance composed of only one atom.
Proton Positive charged particle found in the nucleus.
Neutron Neutral charged particle found in the nucleus.
Electron Negative charged particle found in the energy ring.
Atomic Number Number of protons in an element.
Atomic Mass Number of protons and neutrons in an element.
Isotope Different number of neutrons but the same number of protons.
Ion Charged particle either positive or negative.
Carbohydrate Type of molecule that serves as a living things main source of energy. Short term energy storage.
Protein Large molecule made up of amino acids. Important for structure.
Molecule Atoms joined by a covalent bond.
Solvent Substance in which solute dissolves.
Solution Mixture in which all substances are evenly distributed.
Monomer Building unit for a Macromolecule
Nucleic Acid Carries genetic information, DNA / RNA
Lipid Organic macromolecule that has long term energry storage and is made of CHONP
