| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Cells | The basic unit of structure and function in living things. |
| Cell Wall | Protects and supports the cell. |
| Cell Membrane | Controls what enters and leaves the cell. |
| Nucleus | The control center of the cell. |
| Mitochondria | Convert energy from food molecules to energy the cell can use. |
| Endoplasmic Reticulum | Carries proteins and other materials from one part of the cell to another. |
| Ribosomes | Produce proteins inside cells. |
| Golgi Bodies | Organelles that package and deliver proteins. |
| Vacuoles | Store food and other materials needed by the cell. |
| Lysosomes | Contains chemicals that break down food particles and old cell parts. |
| Chloroplasts | Organelles that use energy from sunlight to produce food. |
| Resolution | Refers to how sharp an image is. |
| Element | A substance that cannot be broken down into a simpler substance. |
| Compound | Two or more elements chemically combined. |
| Enzymes | Catalyst that speeds up chemical reactions. |
| Diffusion | Movement of molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. |
| Osmosis | Diffusion of water through a selectively permeable membrane. |
| Passive Transport | Refers to the movement of materials through the cell membrane without using the cells energy. |
| Active Transport | Refers to the movement of materials through the cell membrane when the cells energy is required. |
