Homeostasis and Cell Transport

Passive Transport Crossing the cell membrane without energy; with the concentration gradient
Diffusion Movement of molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration
Concentration Gradient The difference in concentration across a distance
Equilibrium When molecules are distributed evenly across the cell and outside the cell
Osmosis Process of water diffusing across a cell membrane from a higher to lower concentration, does not require energy
Hypotonic When the concentration of molecules outside the cell is lower than the concentration in the cytosol
Hypertonic When the concentration of solute molecules outside the cell is higher than the concentration in the cytosol
Isotonic When the concentration of solutes outside and inside the cell are equal
Contractile Vacuole
