Concentration Gradient The difference in concentration across a distance
Equilibrium When molecules are distributed evenly across the cell and outside the cell
Osmosis Process of water diffusing across a cell membrane from a higher to lower concentration, does not require energy
Hypotonic When the concentration of molecules outside the cell is lower than the concentration in the cytosol
Hypertonic When the concentration of solute molecules outside the cell is higher than the concentration in the cytosol
