All living things are made of ... cells
These are the basic units of structure and function cells
New cells come from existing cells cells
Prokaryotic Cells Cells WITHOUT a nucleus (before kernal)--BACTERIA
Eukaryotic Cells Cells WITH a nucleus (true kernal)--ANIMAL or PLANT
Electron Microscope Focus beams of electrons using magnetic fields
Light Microscope Light is focused between two lenses
Cytoplasm Holds the organelles in place. Liquid/jelly
Organelles Little organs--pieces in a cell to make the cell work
Nucleus Stores DNA and controls cell's activities
Vacuole Stores materials like salt and water
Vesicle Store and move material in and out of the cell
Lysosomes Break down sugars and proteins
Cytoskeleton Give the cell shape and allow movement in the cell
Ribosomes Make proteins
ER Help make and ship proteins
Golgi Packages and sorts proteins
Chloroplasts Change sunlight energy into food. Photosynthesis with chlorophyll.
Mitochondria Change food into energy the cell can use.
Cell Wall Support, shape and protect plant cells
Cell Membrane Allows materials in and out of the cell
Nucleolus Makes ribosomes
