what is homeostasis? "keeping the home stable" - the maintenance of a stable level of internal conditions even though environmental conditions may be changing
what is metabolism? all the chemical reactions taking place in a body
What are the 4 eukaroytic kingdoms? animals, plants, fungi and protists
what are the 2 prokaryotic kingdoms? bacteria and archaebacteria
what does natural selection mean? survival of the fittest- only the best adapted organism will survive and pass on their genes.
what is a hypothesis an educated guess
what is an independent variable? the variable that the experimenter changes
what is a dependent variable? the variable that the experimenter measures
what is the control group? the variable that the experimenter compares his/her results to
what are experimental constants? aspects of the experiment that are kept the same for each trial
what is a scientific theory? a highly tested principle with a great amount of data that supports it ex: theory of gravity and the cell theory
what kind of microscope has many lens? compound light microscope
what kind of microscope magnifies things up to 1 million times their size an electron microscope
