| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Cells | The basic unit of life. |
| Cell Theory | The idea the all living things need cells, cells are the basic measure of structure and function of living things, and old cell create new cells |
| Cell Membrane | Thin flexible barrier that covers cells |
| Nucleus | Large membrane enclosed structure that contains DNA |
| Eukaryotes | cells that enclose their DNA in the nucleus |
| Prokaryotes | cells that do not enclose their DNA in the nucleus |
| Cytoplasm | Cell portion not in the neucleus |
| Organelles | Specialized organs |
| Vacuoles | Stores materials like water, protein, nutrients. and carbohydrates |
| Lysosomes | Break down lipids, carbs, and proteins into small molecules so it can be used through out the molecule |
| Centrioles | Helps organize cell division |
| Ribosomes | Produce protein from orders by RNA |
| Endoplasmic reticulum | Eukaryota's inner membrane |
| Golgi apparatus | Modifies, sorts, and packages protein to store in the cell or release outside the cell |
| Chloroplast | Captures sunlight energy and creates food |
| Mitochondrian | Converts chemical energy from food into compounds that are easier for the cells |
| Cell wall | Supporting layer around the membrane |
| Lipid Bilayer | Barrier that encloses the membrane from the outside |
| Selective Permeable | Some can pass and some can't |
