TermDefinition
Cells The basic unit of life.
Cell Theory The idea the all living things need cells, cells are the basic measure of structure and function of living things, and old cell create new cells
Cell Membrane Thin flexible barrier that covers cells
Nucleus Large membrane enclosed structure that contains DNA
Eukaryotes cells that enclose their DNA in the nucleus
Prokaryotes cells that do not enclose their DNA in the nucleus
Cytoplasm Cell portion not in the neucleus
Organelles Specialized organs
Vacuoles Stores materials like water, protein, nutrients. and carbohydrates
Lysosomes Break down lipids, carbs, and proteins into small molecules so it can be used through out the molecule
Centrioles Helps organize cell division
Ribosomes Produce protein from orders by RNA
Endoplasmic reticulum Eukaryota's inner membrane
Golgi apparatus Modifies, sorts, and packages protein to store in the cell or release outside the cell
Chloroplast Captures sunlight energy and creates food
Mitochondrian Converts chemical energy from food into compounds that are easier for the cells
Cell wall Supporting layer around the membrane
Lipid Bilayer Barrier that encloses the membrane from the outside
Selective Permeable Some can pass and some can't
