Respiratory system and digestive system

TermDefinition
Pharynx Commonly known as the "throat," connects the nasal passage and the mouth.
Larynx The voice box.
Trachea Commonly known as the "Windpipe."
Bronchi The two major tubes that are connected to the trachea and enter the lungs.
Bronchioles Smaller branch like tubes in the lungs.
Alveoli Tiny air-sacs that exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide.
Lung Major organ devoted to gas exchange.
Cilia Hairs that cover the nasal passages.
Stomach An organ that breaks up major food particles.
Small Intestine Tubes that finalize the digestion process.
Villi "Bumps" on the small intestine wall that help absorb nutrients.
Esophagus Tube that allows food to pass to the stomach.
Bile A digestive juice secreted by the liver to digest fats.
Epiglottis A flap of skin that covers the trachea when swallowing.
Diaphragm A muscle that helps with breathing by pushing upwards and lowering.
