Bones and circulatory system

TermDefinition
Femur Commonly known as the "Thigh bone," also the longest bone in the human body
Clavicle Commonly known as the "Collar Bone"
Tibia This bone supports the lower leg, the thicker of the two lower leg bones.
Fibula This bone helps the lower leg turn, the smaller of the two bones.
Skull This bone structure protects the brain.
Spinal Column This series of bones protects the spinal cord.
Humerus The bone of the upper arm.
Pelvis The hips.
Patella Commonly known as the "Knee Cap."
Sternum This bone brings the ribs together, also commonly known as the "Breast Bone."
Ulna This arm bone helps support the forearm.
Radius This arm bone helps the forearm to turn.
Ribs They protect the organs of the chest.
Aorta The major artery of the body.
Vena Cava The major vein of the human body.
Atria The top two chambers of the heart.
Ventricles The bottom two chambers of the heart.
Left Atrium Oxygen rich blood comes back from the lungs into this chamber
Right Atrium Carbon Dioxide rich blood comes back into the heart via this chamber.
Left Ventricle This chamber pumps blood to the body.
Right ventricle This chamber pumps blood to the lungs.
Artery This blood vessel carries blood away from the heart.
Vein This blood vessel carries blood to the heart.
Capillary The tiniest blood vessel, carries blood from arteries to veins.
Heart A major organ that pumps blood to the body
Oxygen A gas that is needed by all cells for cellular respiration
Cellular Resiration What mitochondria in cells do to make energy.
Carbon Dioxide A gas that is the waste product of cellular respiration.
Red Blood Cell Cells that bring oxygen to cells and carbon dioxide back to the lungs.
