The immune System

Pathogen diease causing agents and can be found on almost any surface.
Lysozyme small chains of amino acid. Destroys types of bacteria and viruses.
non-specific 1st line of defense: External defense-Physical barriers and chemical barriers 2nd line of defense(innate immunity): Phagocytosis and inflammation
Specific 3rd line of defense: Adaptive immunity: Antibody mediated immunity and Cell mediated immunity
Phagocytes White blood cells that eat invading bacteria (pac man style) macrophages and neutrophils
Inflammation injured cells call for help using a chemical called Histamine. Brings fluid filled with more white blood cells to the area.
Fever Raise in body temperature to denature invading organisms enzymes.
Mast cells Release histamine and other alarm signals. Including cytokines.
Macrophages are likely to be the first nonspecific response to bacteria entering a cut in the skin.
lymphocytes isa cell designed to attack a specific protein.
Antigen A molecule that induces an immune response. Usually foreign.
Two Types of Lymphocytes B cells and T cells
B cells develop in the bone marrow and have a specific protein they will recognize and bind to.Scans body fluid for bacteria or viruses.
T Cells Develop in the thymus gland, circulates blood, specific protein they will recognize and bind to. Attacks cells that have already been invaded by bacteria and viruses.
