Section 1 Vocab

TermDefinition
Organic Compounds Made primarily of carbon atoms.
Functional Group Clusters of atoms that influence the characteristics of molecules they compose and the chemical reactions that molecules undergo.
Monomer Smaller, simpler molecules
Polymer A molecule that consists of repeated, linked units
Macromolecule Large polymers, there are many types
Condensation Reaction Monomers link to form polymers through a chemical reaction called condensation reaction
Hydrolysis Type of reaction in which water is used to break down a polymer
Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) This energy is available to cells in the form of certain compounds that store a large amount of energy in their overall structure.
