| Autograph | uses solar or chemical energy and convert it into food forms that living things can use |
| Photosynthesis | captures light energy and uses Co2 and H2O to produce carbohydrates and oxygen |
| Chemosynthesis | chemical energy used to produce carbohydrates with out light |
| Carnivores | Kill and eat other animals to obtain energy |
| herbivores | obtain energy and nutrients by eating plant leaves roots, seeds or other fruits |
| Scavengers | Consume the carcasses of other animals that have been killed by another predator |
| Omnivores | are animals who's diet consist of plants and animals |
| Decomposers | feed by chemically breaking down organic matter |
| Detritivores | Feed on detritus particles |
| Detritus | Small prices of broken down dead animals |
| biosphere | all living and non living things on earth |
| ecology | the study of living things and their interaction between non living things |
| ecosystem | all the organisms that live in a place together with their physical environment |
| community | a group of different populations that live together |
| population | a group of individuals that belong to the same species that live together in the same area |
| Species | made of individuals |
| environment | all conditions or factors surrounding an organism |
| biotic factor | any living part of the environment |
| abiotic factor | any non living part of the environment |
| Food Chain | a series of steps where organisms transfer energy by eating and being eaten |
| Phytoplankton | photosynthetic algae found near the surface of the ocean |
| Food Web | a complex network of feeding interactions |
| Trophic Level | a step in a food chain or food web |
| Ecological Pyramid | shows the relative amount of energy or matter contained within each trophic level in a given food chain or food web |
| Biomass | measurement in grams of organic matter per unit area |
| Biogeochemical Cycles | elements passing through one organism to another among parts of the biosphere through closed loops |
| Nitrogen Fixaction | bacteria converting nitrogen gas into ammonia |
| Dentrification | bacteria obtaining energy by converting nitrates into nitrogen gas |
| Limiting Nutrients | the nutrients whoes supply limits productivity |
