TermDefinition
phloem the vascular tissue through which food moves
xylem water and minerials travel in the vascular tissue
pollen tiny structures that contain the cells that will later become sperm cells
seed a structure that contains a young plant inside a protective covering
embryo the young plant that develops from the zygote or fertilized egg
cotyledons the embryo has one or more seed leaves
germination occurs when the embryo begins to grow again and pushes out of the seed
root cap protects the roots from injury from rocks as the roots grow through the ground
cambium which divides to produce new phloem and xylem
transpiration the process by which water evaporates from a plant's leaves
