How much blood is in your body? 4-6 liters (1.5 gallons)
What percentage of your body weight is blood? 7%
What is the main goal of blood? What is this also known as? to transport O2 to, and remove CO2 from, body tissue- the circulatory system
what does the heart do? pumps the blood
what do the arteries do? carries blood AWAY from the heart
what do veins do? carries blood TO the heart
what do lungs do? O2 is inhaled, CO2 is exhaled
What contains hemoglobin? red blood cells
What do red blood cells carry? O2 and CO2
What do white blood cells do? fight infections by producing antibodies
what do platelets do? help blood clot
What is plasma and what does it do? yellowish liquid, holds nutrients
where are new cells created? in the bone marrow
