Energy The ability to do work
Chemical Reaction one or more substances change to produce on or more different substances
Reactants the elements that will combine to form another element.
Products the element formed in the reaction
Metabolism all the chemical reactions that occur in an organism
activation energy the amount of energy needed to start a reaction
Catalysts reduce the amount of activation energy that is needed for a reaction to take place
Enzyme protein or RNA molecule that speeds up the metabolic reactions without being permanently changed or destroyed
Redox Reactions Reactions in which electrons are transferred between atoms
Oxidation Reaction a reactant loses on or more electrons, thus becoming more positive in charge
Reduction Reaction A reactant gains on or more electrons thus becoming more negative in charge
