Medical Emergencies

illness signs/symptoms cause treatment
choking blue color, gasping, or wheezing noise. food or some foreign object is stuck in the victims trachea for a conscious adult: heimlich maneuver, conscious baby: back blows, Unconscious adult and infant: Chest compressions
Heart attack Men: chest pain and pain that radiates down the shoulder and the arm. Women: nausea, vomiting, back pain, jaw pain and shortness of breath. A clot blocks the coronary artery give two baby aspirin, have the person sit down, and call 911 immediately
Fainting (syncope) temporary loss of consciousness when blood pressure drops suddenly: heat, standing up too fast or emotional distress. elevate legs and place a cool rag on the victims head.
Diabetes: Type 1 thirst, very high level of urine, increase in appetite but weight loss, fatigue,nausea, vomiting,and blurry vision. genetics and life choices. eat healthier and exercise more.
low blood sugar dizziness, confusion, and irritability. not eating give sugar; like soda NOT diet soda
seizures shaking, confusion, the person is out of it for a moment a brain problem, or epilepsy make sure the person is safe and after the seizure is over seek medical help. if it is longer than 2 min call 911 immediately.
stroke sudden numbness, sudden confusion, sudden trouble seeing, sudden loss of balance, sudden severe headache with no known cause. Blood flow to part of the brain stops. get to a hospital QUICKLY so that the clot can be dissolved.
shock cold feeling, and visible blood loss blood pressure is too low, internal or external bleeding, dehydration, burns, severe vomiting and/or diarrhea. keep warm, elevate feet, and lay the person down.
allergic reaction:Anaphylaxis trouble breathing skin contact, insect stings, ingesting,or inhaling. epipen
breathing problems. gasp,noisy breathing, or has discomfort in their chest. choking or any other type of blockage. Hands only CPR
Asthma wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and trouble breathing. the walls of the airway constrict due to a trigger like exercise a quick relief inhaler or a long term control medicine * must know steps*
