Cells

Unit three

TermDefinition
Metaphase Mitosis when fibers meet in the middle
Binary fission Asexual reproduction the cell divides by two
Cell theory First unifying theme of biology, all things are made of cells, cells are the basic unit of life and cells make other cells
Anaphase Fourth stage of mitosis, when the chromatids go to opposite sides of the cell
Endocytosis When a large molecule comes into the cell to the semi permeable membrane
Cytokinesis End the stage of mitosis, when cytoplasm divides
Exocytosis When a large molecule is expelled from the cell
Plasma membrane Semi permeable membrane only found in plants and animals
Active transport Movement of molecules across the membrane using energy
Teleophase This phase of mitosis, when the cell begins to divide
Prophase Going to phase of mitosis, when the chromatins condense
Passive transport Diffusion through the membrane, no energy needed
Phospholipid Molecules that form the two layer cell membrane
Interphase Longest stage of mitosis, the cell performs normal activities and duplicates organelles
Chromosome Long continuous strand of DNA
Eukaryote A type of complex cell with the nucleus, EX. Plants and animal cells
Prokaryote Type of basic cell , No nucleus and no organelles example, bacteria
Mitosis A sexual reproduction
Photosynthesis Process by which light energy is converted to chemical energy to supply the producer with its own energy
Hypotonic solution Having less solute compared to the solvent
Isotonic solution Solution has equal solute compared to the solvent
Hypertonic solution Having more solute compared to the solvent
Falicitated diffusion Diffusion assisted by protein channels
Cell cycle Eukaryotic cells pattern of growth
Cellular respiration ATP Break down carbon when oxygen is present

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
