Biology Ch. 8
biology chapter 8
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| ATP | one of the principal chemical compounds that cells use to store and release energy |
| What is the structure of ATP? | ATP has adenine, a 5 carbon sugar called ribose, and 3 phosphate groups. |
| autotrophs | organisms such as plants that make their own food |
| heterotrophs | organism that gets energy from the food it eats |
| How do living things use ATP? | living things use ATP to store energy for life processes |
| Where do autotrophs get energy to produce food? | autotrophs get energy from the sun or from chemical compounds |
| How a change from ATP to ADP provide an organism with energy? | when the change is made, a phosphate group is removed and the phosphate group releases its energy to the cell |
| What are two ways in which cells use the energy provided by ATP? | active transport, to produce movement, to make new materials, and to respond to stimuli |
| What is the main difference between ADP and ATP? | ADP has one less phosphate group than ATP |
