Biology 2 definitons

TermDefinition
Stomata Openings in the outer cell layer of leaf surfaces and some stems that allow the exchange of water, carbon dioxide, oxygen, and other gases between a plant and its environment.
Vascular Tissue Specialized transport tissues.
Vascular Plant Has vascular tissues.
Non vascular Plant Plants that use osmosis and diffusion.
Seed A plant structure that contains an embryo, contains nutrient for the embryo, and is covered with a protective coat.
Thallose Leafy
Strobillus A compact cluster of spore-bearing structures.
Epiphyte A plant that lives anchored to an object or other plant.
Rhizome Food storage organ.
Sporangium Fern spores
Sorus A cluster of sporangia.
Cotyledon Structures that either store food or help absorb food for the tiny sporophyte.
Cone A structure that contains the male or female reproductive structures of cycads and other gymnosperm plants.
Annual One growing season
Biennial Two growing seasons
Perennial Several growing seasons.
