pathogen an organism that causes disease
infectious disease is a disease that is caused by the presence of a living thing within the body
toxin a poison produced by bacterial pathogens that damages cells
bacteria are one-celled organisms that cause a wide variety of diseases including ear infections, food poisoning and strep throat
viruses are tiny particles , much smaller than bacteria and cannot reproduce unless they are inside living cells
fungi they include molds and yeasts and can cause some infectious disease such as athlete's foot and ringworm
protists are also a cause of disease like Malaria which is an infection of the blood that is common in tropical areas
