DSMS Cell Division

Cell division from interphase to cytokinesis

WordMeaning
Interphase Cells grow, copy their DNA and organelles, and perform their normal functions.
Prophase Chromosomes become visible.
Metaphase Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell.
Anaphase Chromatids are pulled to opposite sides of the cell.
Telophase Chromatids reach opposite sides and new nuclear membranes form.
Cytokinesis The cell completely splits in half.
Meiosis cell division that results in two cells with half the normal number of chromosomes.
Mitosis The division of a nucleus that results in two identical daughter cells.
Chromosome coiled structure of DNA and protein.
cell cycle series of events involving the growth, replication, and division of a cell.
