diffusion the net movement of a substance from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration, also referred to as the movement of a substance down a concentration gradient
facilitated diffusion passive transport of molecules across a biological membrane through proteins
isotonic sport drinks contain similar concentrations of salt and sugar as in the human body
hypertonic sport drinks contain a higher concentration of salt and sugar than the human body
hypotonic sport drinks contain a lower concentration of salt and sugar than the human body
osmosis movement of solvent molecules through a membrane into a region of higher solute concentration, in direction to equalize the solute concentrations on the two sides
phospholipid bilayer hydrophilic phosphate heads point “out” to the water on either side and hydrophobic tails point “in”
selective permeability biological membrane that will allow certain molecules to pass through it by diffusion and "facilitated diffusion"
