Genetics Study of heredity
Heredity The passing of traits from parents to offspring
Trait Inherited characteristics
Phenotype What an organism looks like (physical appearance)
Genotype Genetic makeup of an organism; Two genes for each trait (one from mom, one from dad) - Bb, TT, rr
Dominant A trait that always shows when it is present; use capital letters to show this (BB, Bb, TT, Tt)
Recessive A trait that is hidden when the dominant gene is present; use lower-case letters to show this (bb, tt, rr)
Probability The likelihood or chance of something happening
Punnett square A chart used to predict the results of a genetic cross
Homozygous Having two genes that are the same for a trait (AA or aa)
Heterozygous Having two genes that are different for a trait (Aa)
