TermDefinition
biology (n.) bios- life. logy- the study of. the study of living organisms
centrifuge (n.) centrum- center. fugere- to flee. a machine for separating cream from milk
cell (n.) kel- to cover, conceal. the smallest structural and functional use of an organism, typically microscopic and consisting of cytoplasm and a nucleus enclosed in a membrane.
cytoplasm (n.) cyt- hollow receptacle/basket. plasma- a growth, a development; something molded. the jelly-like substance in a cell that contains the organelles.
cilia (plural n.) plural is cilia. cilium- eyelid, eyelash. celare-to cover, hide. a microscopic, vibrating, hairlike structure.
diffusion (n.) diffusionem-a pouring forth. the intermingling of substances by the natural movement of their particles.
entomology (n.) entomon- insect. logy-the study of. the branch of science that deals with the study of insects.
etymology (n.) etymos- true, real. logia-study of. analysis of a word to find its true origin.
