TermDefinition
Horizontal Gene Transfer: Is the transfer of genes between cells of the same generation.
Vertical Gene Transfers: Occurs during reproduction between generations of cells
Transformation: modification of a cell or bacterium by the uptake and incorporation of extracellular DNA
Conjugation: In bacteria, the direct transfer of DNA between two cells that are temporarily joined.
Transduction: Process of transfering genetic material from one cell to another by a plasmid or bacteriophage
Conjugative plasmid: (sex pili) Carries gene for sex pili & transfer or the plasmid. (Type of gene found in?)
Dissimilation plasmids: Encode enzymes for catabolism of unusual compounds. (Type of gene found in?)
R factors: Resistance (ex- antibiotic)
