Macromolecules

TermDefinition
Monomer the basic building block of a polymer
Organic chemistry the chemistry of carbon compounds especially the compounds of living things
Inorganic chemistry the chemistry of compounds that do not contain carbon
Amino acid the building block (monomer) or proteins
Polypeptide several amino acids linked by peptide bonds. The polymer of proteins.
Peptide bond the bond between two amino acids
Dehydration synthesis the process of building macromolecules by the removal of water
Hydrolysis the process of splitting polymers into monomers by adding water
Polymer a long molecule consisting of many similar or identical monomers linked together
Polysaccharide a large carbohydrate molecule made of one or several types of monosaccharide units.
