| Atom | Smallest basic unit of matter. |
| Element | One particular type of atom and it can't be broken down into a simpler substance. |
| Compound | Substance made of atoms of different elements bonded together in a certain ratio. |
| Ion | Atom that has gained or lost one or more electrons. |
| Ionic Bond | Forms the through the electrical force between oppositely charged ions. |
| Covalent Bond | Forms when atoms share a pair of electrons. |
| Molecule | Two or more atoms held together by covalent bonds. |
| Hydrogen Bond | Attraction between a slightly positive hydrogen atom and a slightly negative atom. |
| Cohesion | Attraction among molecules of a substance. |
| Adhesion | Attraction among different types of substances. |
| Solution | Mixture of substances that is the same through-out it is a homogenous mixture. |
| Solvent | Substance that is present in the greater amount and that dissolves in a solvent. |
| Solute | A substance that is dissolved in a solvent. |
| Acid | A compound which releases a proton. |
| Base | Compounds that release H+ concentration. |
| pH | A solutions acididy. |
| Monomer | Subunit in the complete molecule. |
| Polymer | Large molecule. |
| Carbohydrate | Composed of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. |
| Lipid | Nonpolar molecules. |
