| heredity | The passing of physical characteristics from parent to offspring. |
| trait | A characteristic of an organism that it gets from it's parents. |
| genetics | The scientific study of heredity. |
| fertilization | The beginning of an organisms formation. |
| purebred | The offspring of many generations with the same trait. |
| gene | The factor that controls a trait. |
| alleles | The different forms of a gene. |
| dominant allele | An allele whose trait is always showing when it is present. |
| recessive allele | A trait that is hidden when the dominant one is present. |
| hybrid | An organism with two different alleles for the same trait. |
| probability | A number that shows the likely-hood of something. |
| Punnet square | A chart that shows all the possible combinations of alleles of a cross. |
| phenotype | An organisms appearance. |
| genotype | An organisms genetic makeup |
| homozygous | An organism with two identical alleles for a trait. |
| heterozygous | An organism with two different alleles for a trait. |
| codominance | An organism that has alleles that are neither dominant or recessive so are both shown |
| meiosis | The process through which some cells chromosomes are halved to create sex cells. |
| messenger RNA | Copies the coded message from the nucleus and carries it to the ribosome. |
| transfer RNA | Carries amino acids to the ribosome and adds them to growing proteins. |
| mutation | Any change in a gene or chromosome. |
