| heredity | The passing of physical characteristics from parents to off springs |
| genetics | a characteristics of an organism that it gets from its parents |
| fertilization | a new organism begins to form when egg and sperm join in the process |
| purebred | the offspring of many generations that have the same trait |
| gene | the factors that control a trait |
| alleles | they are different forms of gene |
| dominant allele | one of whose trait always shows up in the organism when the allele is present |
| recessive allele | it is hidden whenever the dominant allele is present |
| hybrid | it has two different alleles for a trait |
| probability | to predict the results of a particular event |
| punnet square | it is a chart that shows all the possible combinations of alleles |
| phenotype | it is a physical appearance |
| genotype | it is the genetic make up |
| homozygous | it has two identical alleles |
| heterozygous | two different alleles |
| codominance | it is neither dominate or recessive |
| meiosis | the process by which the number of chromosomes is reduced by half to form sex cells |
| messenger RNA | copies the coded message to the ribsome in the cytoplasm |
| transfer RNA | carries amino acids to the ribsome and adds them to the growing protein |
| mutation | is any change in a gene or chromosome |
