Genetics

TermDefinition
Heretity the passing of physical characteristics from parents to offspring.
trait having different characteristics than other people around you.
genetics the scientific study of heredity
fertilization making a begining with fertilization.
purebred bred from parents that are the same breed
probability to predict the results of a particular event.
Meoiosis the process by which the number of chromosomes is reduced by half to form sex- cells.
Messenger RNA copies the coded message from the DNA
transfer RNA carries amino acids to the ribosomes and adds them to the growing protein.
gene the set of information that controls a trait
alleles the different forms of a gene
dominant allele an alleles whose trait always shows up in the organism
hybrids an organism that has two different alleles
Punnet square a chart that shows all the possible combinations.
phenotype an organism's response apperance.
genotype an organism's genetic makeup
homozygous having two identical alleles
heterozygous having two different alleles
codominance a condition in which neither of two alleles of a gene is dominant.
