Cell Organelles

TermDefinition
nucleus The control center - directs all of the cell's activities; contains the DNA
cell membrane Protects the cell and regulates what substances enter and leave the cell
cell wall A stiff outer covering that protects the cell - found only in plant cells.
mitochondria creates the energy for the cell
vacuole storage area for water, waste and food
chloroplast absorbs sunlight for photosynthesis
endoplasmic reticulum passageways to transport materials around the cell
cytoplasm gel-like material; where many chemical reactions occur in the cell
