TermDefinition
Trait characteristics of all living things;a physical characteristic; determined by genes
Inherit To receive traits from parents
Inherited Traits Traits that are passed from parent to offspring (babies)
Heredity Passing of traits from one generation to the next
Chromosome A rod shaped structure in the nucleus of a cell that contains DNA
Gene Part of a chromosome that determines heredity traits. Instructions for a particular trait.
Genetics The study of genes
Dominant Gene A gene in which the trait will always appear (Dominates when present)
Recessive Gene A gene in which the trait only appears when there is NO dominate gene present
DNA Chemical molecules in chromosomes that control cell activity and determine hereditary traits
Allele One of several forms of a specific gene
Learned Behavior way of acting; something you've learned over time
Instict Inherited behavior; a behavior you are born with
