Cell Organelles

TermDefinition
Mitochondria the powerhouse of the cell, it converts food into energy.
Cell Wall the outside layer of a plant cell that provides support and protection
Cell Membrane all animal cells have this outside lining that allows materials in and out of the cell
Nucleus the control center of the cell, it directs all of the cell's activities
Cytoplasm the gel-like substance in the cell that all the organelles float in
Endoplasmic Reticulum a maze of passagways that carry ribosomes to other parts of the cell
Ribosomes these little organelles produce proteins
Lysosomes they remove waste and break down food
Golgi Body it receives proteins and other materials and passes them onto other parts of the cell
Chloroplast they capture the sun's energy and make food for plants
Vacuole the storage area of the cell, it is larger in plant cells
