Biology the study of life
Cell The smallest unit that can preform all life processes
Unicellular an organism that consists of a single cell
Multicellular Describes a tissue, organ, or organism that is made of many cells
Organelle one of the small bodies that are found in the cytoplasm of a cell designed to preform a specific function
Biological Molecule Chemical compound that provides physical structure and and brings about movement, energy use,and other cellular functions.
Homeostasis the tendency to maintain internal stability
Metabolism the sum of all chemical process that occur in an organ
Development The gene directed process by which an organism matures
Reproduction The process of producing offspring
Scientific Method A series of steps followed to solve a scientific problem
Observation The process of obtaining information by using the senses
Hypothesis An idea or explanation that is based on observations and that ca be tested
Prediction A statement made in advance that expresses the results that should be obtained by testing a hypothesis that is supported
Experiment a procedure that is carried out under controlled conditions to discover, demonstrate, test a fact, theory, or general truth
Control Group a group that serves as a standard of comparison with another group to which the control group is identical except for one factor
Experimental Group a group that is identical to a control group except fir one factor and that is compared to the control group
Independent Variable In an experiment the factor that is deliberately manipulated
Dependent Variable The factor that changes as a result of manipulation of one or more other factors
Theory an explanation based on some phenomenon that is based on observation that is supported by a large amount of evidence
Peer Review evaluation of scientific work by others working in the same field
Volume the amount of space that an object or substance occupies
Mass A measure of the amount of matter in an object
Weight the force that gravity exerts on the body
Density the degree of compactness of a substance
Organ A collection of tissue that carries out a specific function in your body
Tissue A collection of specialized cells hat preform a specific function
Organ System a group of organs that work together to preform a certain task
