| producer / autotroph | make their food (i.e. energy), using sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water. |
| consumer/ heterotroph | eats others organisms as a source of food/energy |
| Detritivore | feeds on dead matter that scavengers leave behind e.g. Woodlice, dung flies, millipedes |
| Scavenger | feeds on dead animal and plant material present in its habitat e.g. vultures, yellow jackets, raccoons |
| Decomposer | feeds on dead matter and recycles it back into the ecosystem e.g. fungi |
| Biodiversity | sum total of all living organisms within an ecosystem |
| Omnivore | eats both plants and animals, e.g. raccoon |

| Abiotic | non living |
| Immigration | organisms are coming into the environment |
| Emigration | organisms are leaving the environment |
| Community | all living organism within an ecosystem |
| Ecosystem | all living organism and nonliving factors within the environment |
| Population | a group on individuals from the same species living together |
| Niche | the physical and biological area where an organism lives . It's "click" or "spot" |
| Carrying capacity | the maximum population size an environment can sustain. |
| Non-native species | a species that is not original to the environment, disrupts the food web |
