Ecology

TermDefinition
Carbon central atom that is found in all macromolecules
Nitrogen atom found in protein and nucleic acids
Biological magnification occurs when chemicals increase exponentially in a food chain.
Respiration released by mitochondria in plants and animals, allows carbon to enter the atmosphere
Photosynthesis allows carbon to be removed from the atmosphere and enter plants
Fossil fuels rich source of carbon in soil, formed by dead plants and animals
Pollution burning of fossil fuels returns carbon to the atmosphere
