Genetics

TermDefinition
Sister chromatids Identical strands of DNA joined by a centromere
Histone protein that DNA winds itself around so it can fit in the nucleus
Diploid or 2N two sets (i.e. pairs) of chromosomes (e.g. humans =46)
haploid or 1N one set of chromosomes (e.g. humans=23)
Meiosis produces four genetically different cells; division of sex cells (i.e. gametes)
Chromosome a threadlike structure that contains genetic information , two connected will form an X shape.
Mitosis produces two identical daughter cells; only occurs in somatic (i.e. body) cells
DNA molecule that stores genetic information in the nucleus
