What does the articulator do.... Recreates the TMJ
Elastomeric Materials Rubber like, used for precise duplication, no distortion and great dimensional stability; multi-body types Polysulfide, Polyether, Silicone (polysiloxane, polyvinysiloxane)
Polysulfide Light, medium/regular and heavy. Used on crowns, bridges, partial, and denture impressions. Stains, tastes bad and stinks. 10 min setting time
Polyether Medium body only; Used on crowns, bridges, partial, and denture impressions. Cant use around prep tooth.
Polysiloxane Putty, used for bite registration & custom trays
Polyvinysiloxane High degree of accuracy & dimensional stability. Expensive
What is sent to the lab.... Lab slip, final impression, opposing arch & bite registration (also tooth # and shade)
When is adhesive applied... used on smooth custom trays; makes impression material stick to the trays rather the mouth
