Function of: Lungs? the primary organs of the respiratory system that absorb oxygen from the air and have three parts: the bronchi, bronchioles, and alveoli
Function of: Larynx "voicebox" contains vocal cords
Function of: bronchioles smaller tubes that branch off the bronchi that hold the alveoli
Function of: alveoli tiny air sacs at the end of the bronchioles that are specialized for gas exchange
Function of: emphysema condition in the respiratory system that damages the alveoli caused by smoking
Function of: pharynx name of the throat of the tube that carries both food and air
Function of: Diaphram the muscle that located at the bottom of the rib cage that is helped with breathing
What is the respiratoty system? responsible for bringing oxygen to the body and releasing carbon dioxide
What is asthma? condition in the respitory system that causes bronchi to narrow down due to a trigger like pollen
Function of: Trachea larger tubes that direct air into lungs
Function of: epiglottis flap of tissue that covers the larynx that prevents food from going into the lungs
function of: bronchi passageway after pharynx that takes air into the lungs
What are the 4 functions of the respiratory system? 1. removes carbon dioxide from the body 2. gets oxygen from the environment 3. removes excess water 4. helps with speech
What happens when the diaphragm is pushed up to make lungs contract? you are exhaling
What happens when the diaphragm is pulled down to make lungs expand? you are inhaling
