The Functions of cell parts

| cell wall | support and protect (plant cell only) |
| cell membrane | outer barrier; controls what enters and leaves cell |
| cytoplasm | "gel" of the cell |
| mitochondria | powerhouse; energy producer |
| chloroplasts | food producers; plant cells only |
| nucleus | control center |
| chromosomes | contain DNA |
| ribosomes | make protein |
| vacuole | water storage (mostly plants) |
| prokaryotic | type of cell that does NOT have a nucleus. Example: bacteria |
| eukaryotic | type of cell that has a nucleus and other membrane bound organelles. Example: plant and animal cells |
| plant cell | cell wall, chloroplasts, large vacuole are only found in this type of cell |
