Cellular Resperation

Bio Test Part 1

QuestionAnswer
What is the chemical equation for cellular respiration? C6H12O6+6O2 yields to 6CO2 + 6H2O + ATP
Where does glycolysis take place? cytoplasm
Is glycolysis aerobic or anaerobic? both
Where does Krebs Cycle take place? matrix
Is the Krebs Cycle anaerobic or aerobic? aerobic
Where does the ETC take place? cristae
Is the ETC anaerobic or aerobic? aerobic
(Def.) Aerobic with oxygen
(def.) anaerobic without oxygen
What is the reactant in gycolysis? glucose
What is the product in glycolysis? pyruvate & NADH & 2 ATP
What two groups does pyruvate split into? anaerobic and aerobic
What is another name for anaerobic respiration? fermentation
What are two types of fermentation? alcoholic fermentation and lactic acid fermentation
What is the chemical formula for alcoholic fermentation? pyruvic acid + NADH yields to alcohol + CO2 + NAD+
When does alcoholic fermentation happen? happens when yeast makes beer or bacteria makes wine
What is the chemical equation for lactic acid fermentation? pyruvic acid + NADH yields to lactid acid + NAD+
When does lactic acid happen? happens in muscles during exercise when the body can't get oxygen enough oxygen to the tissues fast enough (carries lactid acid through the muscles as a result) & happens when bacteria used to make food
How does lactic acid react with muscles? Lactic acid builds up in muscles causing soreness
Ex of lactic acid foods cheese, yogurt, buttermilk, sauerkrout, pickles, sour cream, & kimchi
What does pyruvate react with when it enters the Kreb Cycle? coenzyme A (CoA)
What does pyruvate and CoA form when they react? acetyl CoA
Where does the acetyl CoA go & what does it react with once it gets there? acetyl CoA goes to Mitochondria & acetyl CoA reacts with oxaolacitic acid
When acetyl CoA reacts with oxaloacetic acid what does it make? citric acid
What is the product of the Krebs Cycle? Carbon Dioxide
What is sent to the ETC from the the Krebs Cycle? NADH & FADH2
What does NADH turns to? NAD+
What does FADH2 turns to? FAD+
FADH2 turns hydrogen ions in the ETC and converts what into what? FADH2 turns hydrogen ions in the ETC and converts oxygen into water
When hydrogen ions build up in the intermembrane space where does it diffuse through? ATP Synthase
What happens after hydrogen ions pass through ATP Synthase? Turns 32 ADP molecules to 32 ATP molecules
What is added after 32 ADP molecules turns to 32 ATP molecules? Adds H2O to turn to 36 ATP molecules
What are the electron carriers? NAD+ and FAD
What does alcoholic fermentation produce? ethonol
Does alcoholic fermentation produce a lot of ATP? NO
