| Nucleotide | A unit made up of a base, a sugar and a phosphate |
| Chromosome | A structure in the nucleus containing a long string of genes |
| DNA | It is a double helix shaped chemical which carries genetic information |
| Mutation | A permanent change in genetic code |
| Mitosis | Cell division that occurs in the body cells for growth and repair. |
| Gene | A section of a chromosome that codes for a particular protein and therefore a trait or characteristic |
| Base | The units of the genetic code. Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine, Thymine |
| Triplet | A sequence of three nucleotides that code for an amino acid |
| Amino acid | Building block of a protein |
| Protein | Long chain molecules that control many cell functions |
| Allele | An alternative form of a gene |
| Cell | Basic unit of most living things |
| Nucleus | Control centre of a cell |
| Meiosis | Type of cell division producing gametes |
| Gamete | Cell with half the normal chromosome number |
| Replication | Making an exact copy |
| Variation | Having differences |
