| Trait | a characteristic that varies from one individual to another-can also be passed down |
| Hybrid | offspring of crosses between parents with different traits |
| Segregation | separation |
| Gamete | sex cell that is also a haploid |
| Homozygous | organisms that have two identical alleles for a certain trait |
| Heterozygous | organisms that have two different alleles for the same trait |
| Phenotype | the physical characteristics of an organism |
| Genotype | the genetic makeup of an organism |
| Independent Assortment | the independent segregation of genes during the making of gametes |
| Incomplete Dominance | when an allele is not completely dominant over another |
| Codominance | when both alleles contribute to the phenotype |
| Multiple Allele's | genes that have more than two alleles |
| Polygenic Traits | traits controlled by two or more genes |
| Haploid | having a single set of chromosomes |
| Diploid | having two sets of chromosomes |
| Meiosis | reduction division where the number of chromosomes per cell is cut in half through the separation of homologous chromosomes in a diploid cell |
| Tetrad | each chromosome pairs with its cooresponding homologous chromosome to make tetrads |
