| hybrid | the offspring of parents with different traits |
| segregation | the separation of alleles |
| gamete | sex cells |
| homozygous | organisms with two identical alleles for the same trait. |
| heterozygous | organisms with two different alleles for the same trait. |
| phenotype | physical traits |
| genotype | the genes for a trait. |
| independent assortment | when the alleles for one trait segregate separate from each other. |
| incomplete dominance | when the heterozygous genes code for a trait that is a mix of the recessive and dominant. |
| co-dominance | both alleles contribute to the phenotype. |
| multiple alleles | genes with two or more alleles |
| polygenic traits | traits controlled by two or more genes. |
