| Genetics | This is the study of the transmission of characteristics from parent to offspring |
| Trait | A specific characteristic, like hair color, that varies for every person |
| Hybrid | The combination of the parents different traits in their offspring |
| Segregation | Separation of alleles |
| Gametes | These are sex cells that have half the number of chromosomes as the parent |
| Homozygous | Two of the same alleles, for example: RR or rr |
| Heterozygous | Two different alleles, for example: Rr |
| Genotype | An organism's full genetic information |
| Phenotype | An organism's observed properties like behavior and development |
| Independent Assortment | States that the alleles separate after gametes are formed |
| Incomplete Dominance | Is when neither alleles in a trait are dominant |
| Co-Dominance | Is when both alleles in a trait are dominant |
| Multiple Alleles | Is when a trait has 3 or more alleles |
| Polygenetic Traits | When the phenotype is influenced by more than one trait |
| Haploid | The number of cells in a regular nucleus |
| Diploid | Half the number of cells in sex cells |
| Meiosis | Division of sex cells |
| Tetrad | A group of four chromosomes that come together during sexual reproduction. Crossing over results in this process. Tetrads are homologous chromosomes. |
